Boro’s second-half super-show at Thackley gave them their eighth league win in a row, and the team are now unbeaten in 12 league games, going six points clear at the top of the table in the process.
Ryan Blott’s hat-trick was significant in many ways. Not only did it see him top the scoring charts for league goals in the NCEL Premier Division, but he also confirmed that Thackley are his favourite opposition. This season Blotty – pictured below at Thackley – has five goals against them, and overall he has notched 12 goals in 11 matches against the Dennyboys – the most goals he has scored against one team for Boro. His third goal was his 180th for the club in 218 appearances.
Jimmy Beadle scored his first goal for the club, on his first start, in the win. In doing so became the fifth player to score for both Scarborough FC and Scarborough Athletic FC – the others being Blott, Tony Hackworth, Mike Price and Denny Ingram.
Tony Hackworth scored his 15th of the season, but also missed a first half penalty – pictured below. That was the fourth penalty miss this season by a Boro player. Ryan Blott missed two – ironically against Thackley at home, and against Brighouse in November. Ollie Banks couldn’t score from the spot against Bridlington, and then Hackworth’s was saved at Thackley. Thankfully none of the misses meant Boro lost matches.
In other news, Ollie Banks is rumoured to have left Boro to sign for North Ferriby United, although neither the local press or the club is yet to confirm this after Banks failed to appear for Boro on Saturday.
